We are pleased to share a new collaborative publication in Gut Microbes, with our colleague Parastoo Akbarimoghaddam contributing as a co-first author.
The study, “Assessing the proinflammatory potential of sterile fecal microbiome filtrate from ulcerative colitis patients using an intestine-on-chip platform and automated image analysis”, investigates whether factors originating from a dysbiotic gut microbiome can contribute to the inflammatory processes associated with ulcerative colitis.
Using an immunocompetent intestine-on-chip model combined with automated image analysis, the researchers found that sterile fecal microbiome filtrate from patients with active ulcerative colitis induced a strong proinflammatory response. These findings provide new insights into the possible role of microbiome-derived factors in initiating or promoting intestinal inflammation.
The publication also includes contributions from our colleagues Zoltán Cseresnyés and Marc Thilo Figge, who is one of the corresponding authors.
